After many years of dreaming, writing, tweaking, recording and planning, we are releasing Coal Train Railroad on Thanksgiving Day. It’s great jazz for kids! Coal Train is a collaboration between Katy Bowser and Chris Donohue. It’s music about kid stuff- juice, snuggling, naps, getting along, sharing- with music that we can all enjoy together. We weren’t kidding around when we made this music- we found the best jazz musicians in town, with special guests like Jeff Coffin and Rod McGaha jumping in. Kids deserve good music, too.

So, dear friends, all of this oblique language I’ve been using about projects that I’m working on? Here we are, and I’m ready to share!
A note to those of you who’ve been keeping up with me for a long time: this project is six or seven years in the making. It began when I used to watch a sweet baby girl named Maeve Donohue, and I sang her little jazz ditties I made up as I walked around East Nashville with her in a Baby Bjorn, and as we played with blocks, and as she went down for naps. Chris and Laura, Maeve’s very musical folks, took to the songs, and Chris and I, with Laura’s strong encouragement, began to work these little tunes up, write them together, and generally have a ball making jazz for the little people in our lives. As a singer/songwriter who has musical roots in jazz, this was the best. So, after years of finetuning, we’re ready to share. Kids are growing up, we need to put the songs out!

Yay! Glad to see the Coal Train is leaving the station! Chris had gave me a copy of some of your early demos a few years ago, and they are still some of my kids favorite music! Thanks for getting this project out there!
