I thought I’d add a few pictures of my time in Georgia.  A good bit of it was spent in the library at the Portico, writing.  I did take a couple of field trips, though, to Josh & Clare’s wonderful homestead out in the country and into town in Athens. Kenny and I also had really sweet time with Lee and Leslie Moody, the folks who own the Portico, a study center/retreat place/farm.

Rachel and Jacob, Clare and little Esme headed down to the cob house.  Rachel’s elder, Andrew, and I, are bringing up the rear.  Andrew is still contemplating the possibility of bringing the toy lawnmower down to the cob site.

Amazing, huh?  What if Kenny and I made a cob studio?  Minimal right angles, good sound absorption…  And it would be so cool.

The cob house that Clare is building.  You can follow her progress at The Muddy Boot.  Also, a sideview of the baby that Rachel is building.  I know of no blog, but maybe we’ll get baby pics up here in a few months.

The Georgia Theatre burned a couple of days before we arrived.  Everybody in Athens had stories about the theatre, and every band that ever played there seems to be working on an effort to re-build.

graveyard

The graveyard I walked through well after dark, into the woods and back to the house.  I got lost the first night, and saw lots of eyes reflecting my flashlight.  Heebidy-jeebidy.

Here’s Kenny with Lee Moody after a day of playing.  OK, working, but it looks like they had a miserable time, doesn’t it? Lee was the one who ended up crawling under a building and feeding wires through.  Lee Moody’s business card has no description- he finds them limiting.  I like to call him a “gentleman farmer”.  Lee and Leslie are an amazing pair.  On their property, there are beehives, corn, a garden, blacksmithing and woodworking areas, the pond, along with a dance floor and bandstand.  Wonderful parties happen there, along with good study, respite and work.  They even take in itinerant writers and let them hang out all week and write.  Blessings on the Moodys.
