Is there anything sweeter than twin eleven year olds knocking down your door all week, asking to bake cookies?
One day they forgot, then I forgot, and we made plans for today at 2. They started knocking at 11:30. As I’d gotten up at 11 after reading Andrew Peterson’s wonderful On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness until 2 am (in preparation for enjoying and reviewing the next one) I’d not made coffee yet, let alone gone to the store for the chocolate chips I’d forgotten. I called them over at one- they were so excited.
The girls are officially experts at chocolate chip cookies, and we now need to move on to something more challenging- perhaps they’d like to work their way through Mastering the Art of French Cooking with me? Or maybe an apple pie. So, old hands as we were, I asked them if they would read a book out loud with me while the cookies baked. I had the union organizing classic for kids Click Clack Moo on the coffetable, a gift from dear Margie Haack. She also gave Kenny Doobie Doobie Moo- encouraging each of us in current endeavors. Way below all of our reading levels, but you’re way too grown up if you can’t laugh at Click Clack Moo.
While reading about the cows airing their grievances and desires for electric blankets to Farmer Brown via typewritten letters, I asked, “Have you girls ever seen a typewriter?” They hadn’t. Kenny and I each brought one to the marriage, so I got them both out, and lost the girls entirely. They were so entirely intrigued at the clacking, the mechanics, where the “delete” button was… What fun. They left me with typewritten thank you notes and accounts of their visit.

Wish I could come by for cookies, too. Extending hospitality to these two is a grace, dear friend. Next show them a B&W TV without a remote.
What about vinyl records? I bet they could have fun spinning some 78’s
Beautiful.
LOVE Click Clack Moo! That book makes me laugh out loud. This afternoon looks like so much fun!

Im so inspired right now in so many ways, i can hardly make sense of my head. lovely post
This post includes seventeen reasons that I am in love with you. Just so you know. Also, as a side note, my mom just came across Click, Clack, Moo and bought it “for Elijah.” She read it to my dad twice on the way home from the bookstore and does not appear to be willing to part with it any time soon. Hilarious.
